Editorial Guidelines

Submitting an outline for a technical article
Before sending a full-length article, please submit a brief outline or proposal of your article to WSD's Technology Editor, Nancy Friedrich. Nancy or one of our senior-level editors will review your outline within a week or two and advise you of any suggestions for changes or revisions.

Article format
Technical articles in Wireless Systems Design are typically 2000 to 3500 words in length, with a ratio of about one graphic element (artwork, charts, or figures) per 400 words of text. Article text should be supplied as a Microsoft Word file, with graphic elements supplied as separate TIF, GIF, JPEG, or BMP files. For convenience in transporting files, the text and graphic files can be archived as WINZIP files. Graphic elements should have a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi).

Publishing procedure
If your outline has been approved, you will be asked to submit the entire article. You should submit the article 90 days prior to the time you would like to see it appear in our magazine (for example, an article targeted for the December issue should reach the offices of Wireless Systems Design by early September. Within 30 days of receipt of the article, the Editor will decide whether or not to accept it for publication. If he accepts the article, we will notify you in which issue it is scheduled to appear, and inform you of the editing schedule and deadline. After the article is edited, you will be required to sign and return a copyright form. By signing this form, you certify that you have given us exclusive permission to publish the article, and that you have not submitted the article to any other publication. It should be noted that all authors receive a prepress proof for their review, at which time they will be asked to make final changes based on the Wireless Systems Design edited version of their article. For further information on the publishing procedure, please contact Wireless Systems Design Editorial Assistant Dawn Prior, Penton Technology & Lifestyle Media, 45 Eisenhower Drive, 5th floor, Paramus, NJ 07652; (201) 845-2446.

Editorials
The procedure for publishing editorial-type articles in the Industry Insider or Inflection Point Columns is similar to that for contributed Technical Articles. In most cases, however, editorials are only 850 words in length and are written with more opinion than technical fact. Proposals should be submitted in the form of a short abstract to Nancy Friedrich at nfriedrich@penton.com. The submission should be made approximately 90 days before the issue data of interest, so that Wireless Systems Design's editors can plan content for each issue accordingly. Once an editorial proposal has been submitted, you will be notified within 30 days whether it has been accepted for publication.

Don't forget to include:
• A high-resolution (300+ dpi) headshot of the author
• The author's full name
• The company's full name, street address, and web address
• The author's contact information, including telephone, FAX, and e-mail
• The author's current title and job description

Email your proposal for a design feature or opinion piece to Nancy Friedrich, nfriedrich@penton.com.
