  • Spain's Amitelo Communications, Inc. (www.amitelo.com) took steps to incorporate a new division. Amitelo Wireless SL will handle the deployment and development of Amitelo's wireless network for the delivery of broadband and voice services. Amitelo also appointed Leopold Delepierre to the position of Chief Business Development Officer. Delepierre has over 30 years experience in telecommunications and IT.
  • Metalink Ltd. (www.metalinkbb.com) appointed Noboru Tsuchiya as Senior Field Application Engineer fully dedicated to country support. Previously, Noboru served as a Senior Field Applications Engineer at GlobespanVirata.
  • The Board of Directors of Elcoteq Network Corp. (www.elcoteq.com) announced its plan to build a new plant in St. Petersburg, Russia. Construction of the plant, which will have an area of 14,700 m2 (158,000 ft.2), is slated to begin in the final quarter of this year. The plant should be in operation in the fall of 2005. When operating at capacity, it is expected to employ about 1500 people.
  • Christian Sommerfelt was appointed President and CEO of the mobile e-wallet company, Contopronto AS (www.contopronto.com). Previously, he was Regional Director of Geneva-based Teleglobal SA.
  • Ovum (www.ovum.com) and the GSM Association (www.gsmworld.com) signed an agreement to offer market data and advisory services to the mobile industry. Branded Wireless Intelligence, this venture is expected to include data on advanced multimedia, next-generation messaging, and data services. This web-based service will launch in the fourth quarter of this year. In a separate announcement, Ovum and Nucleus Research (www.nucleusresearch.com) announced an alliance to deliver return-on-investment advisory and consulting services to new and existing clients in Europe. The companies plan to give enterprises and service providers a complete perspective on the technology landscape. The Ovum/Nucleus offering will provide expert analysis ranging from market and technology trends to vendor product offerings and ROI data on real-world technology deployments.
  • Artimi, Inc. (www.artimi.com) closed a $14 million Series A funding round. The round included Index Ventures, Accel Partners, Amadeus Capital Partners Ltd., and Oak Investment Partners.
  • Gigatronix Ltd. introduced the Cabulator at www.gigatronix.com. The Cabulator is a web-based design program for producing RF coaxial-cable assemblies. It enables users to configure and purchase over 200,000 permutations of RF coaxial-cable assemblies online. The software includes 36 popular RF cables including Mil-Specification RG cables, broadcast cables, and the Times Microwave low-loss cables that are commonly used in GPS, GSM, and other wireless communication systems.
  • Enthone, Inc., a business of Cookson Electronics (www.cooksonelectronics.com), appointed Aaron Storms, Managing Director — Enthone Latin America. Storms' primary focus will be on developing Enthone's Central and South American businesses with a special emphasis on the Brazilian market. He also will be responsible for the management of Enthone's Mexico operations. Storm joins Enthone from Crompton Corp., where he held the dual role of General Manager of Mexico and HR Director for Latin America.
