With the advent of the Internet, a multitude of new resources suddenly appeared at the engineer's fingertips. Instead of having to rely on phone calls and catalogs, engineers can now browse the web and surf information-filled design sites. In fact, we've seen research that confirms that the web is becoming an increasingly critical resource for you. Such research tells us that it's time to expand our electronic-media efforts. Going forward, we're planning to supplement our printed magazine with electronic offerings that help you get your jobs done more quickly.

We already offer an e-newsletter, "WSD Update." This monthly newsletter, which will soon be reborn as "The Wireless Watch," keeps its subscribers up to date on wireless-industry news, information, and insights. (If you aren't a subscriber, feel free to sign up to receive our e-newsletter at www.wsdmag.com. Under "E-mail Newsletters," just enter your e-mail address.) Recently, we found out that this newsletter is very favorably received. Our subscribers obviously like the content we choose, as the newsletter boasts a very respectable click-through rate.

To build on the success of our printed and e-newsletter properties, we now plan to expand our electronic offerings. Our first new effort is the webcast titled, "FPGA Design For Complex Products." This webcast is being held on November 16, 2004 at 10 a.m. Pacific time (1 p.m. Eastern time). To help our readers cope with today's complex designs, a panel of experts will speak on the pertinent issues that face field-programmable-gate-array (FPGA) developers of wireless systems. With help from experts from Mentor Graphics, Xilinx, and Dillion Engineering, the webcast will explore the design warrior's approach to implementing FPGAs. Among the topics covered will be devices, tools, and flows.

The renowned author and speaker, Clive "Max" Maxfield, will moderate this webcast. As an added bonus, the first 50 professionals that attend the webcast will receive a free copy of Max's popular book on FPGA development (See "Win The Battle Of FPGA Design," July/August 2004, p. 16). This webcast will be an interactive event. Participants will be able to ask the panel questions via both phone and e-mail. To register, go to www.planetee.com/events. Click the register button next to "FPGA Design For Complex Products."

We'd love to hear your input on both our printed and electronic efforts. Feel free to send us any ideas about how we can better serve you. You can reach us at nfriedrich@penton.com and jblyler@penton.com. In closing, we're sure that you've noticed that our former Editor-in-Chief, Cheryl Ajluni, is no longer with Wireless Systems Design. Please join us in wishing Cheryl good luck in all of her future endeavors.
