[New Products] Operational Amplifiers Are Portable-Friendly Staff January/February 2003
>
Designers of portable equipment constantly seek to cut size and power consumption. Now, they have help in achieving these goals from Seiko Instruments. The company's S-8940xA series of CMOS mini-analog, single, wideband operational amplifiers boasts ultra-low power consumption and an ultra-small, SOT-23-6 package. These features make it ideally suited to compact battery-powered devices, such as cell phones, PDAs, electronic notebooks, and digital cameras. The S-89400A and S-89401A offer a 2-MHz gain-bandwidth product underscored by a 5-V/µs slew rate. They flaunt a 750-µA quiescent current, an operating voltage of only 1.2 to 5.5 V, and a nominal current consumption of 0.1 µA in shutdown mode. Input offset voltage is available down to a maximum 10 mV with the S-89400A and 5.0 mV with the S-89401A. As for the S-89402A and S-89403A, they have a 10-MHz gain-bandwidth product with a 5-V/µs slew rate and a typical quiescent current of 1.9 µA at 3.0 V. These wideband op amps can be used in a negative-feedback circuit with upwards of 5X gain. The S-89402A can be driven at voltages as low as 2.7 to 5.5 V, while the S-89403A can go as low as 1.2 to 3.3 V. Input offset voltage is available down to 5.0 mV. In shutdown mode, these devices' current consumption is typically 0.1 µA. The S-8940xA series is priced from $0.35 to $0.39 in quantities of 10,000. Seiko Instruments USA, Inc. |
