Viewpoint ************* Third Method Of UWB Solves The Home Networking Problem By Louis E. Frenzel, Wireless/Communications Technical Editor Like many of the technologies we have grown to love, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) has experienced several poignant changes leading up to its current state. UWB is that weird and wacky wireless technology that spreads the signal over at least 500 MHz of bandwidth in the 3.1- to 10.6-GHz range for accomplishing blazing data rates over short ranges (<10 meters or so). Commentary ****************** Do You Have 3G? If Not, Why? I am trying to get a fix on how many cell-phone subscribers actually have a 3G handset. I must admit, it is a difficult task. No collective figures seem to be available. Market studies have future estimates and some limited past data but nothing current. It is always tough to pinpoint a moving target. Only the carriers probably know for sure who their 3G customers are. But what about you? Do you know? http://www.wsdmag.com/Articles/ArticleID/15782/15782.html ****************** 3. News ****************** Integrated EDA Tools Speedup RF/Microwave Design, Verification By integrating its Electromagnetic Design System full-wave 3D simulator into its Advanced Design System EDA software platform, Agilent Technologies has reduced the number of steps required for accurate designs of high-frequency RF and microwave modules, boards, and planar antennas. News ******** WiMAX reference Design Shortens Time-To-Market The WiMAX Mini-PCI reference design just introduced by Wavesat for the unlicensed 5.8-GHz band promises to open the way for fast deployment of WiMAX systems worldwide. News ******** Successive Detection Boosts Performance Of Millimeter-Wave Log Video Amps The ASDA-81826, the ASDA-82640, and the ASDA-81840 successive-detection log video amplifiers from Endwave Corp. provide improved sensitivity and dynamic range over the millimeter-wave range of 18 to 40 GHz. Read the entire article at: http://www.wsdmag.com/Articles/ArticleID/15763/15763.html ******** 5. News ******** A Dozen IC Amps Address Broad Range Of RF Design Challenges Analog Devices has expanded its RF portfolio with the addition of 12 devices, including the ADL5521 and the ADL5523 low-noise amplifiers, the ADL553x family of single and dual-channel IF amps, the ADL532x driver amplifiers, and the ADL5541 and ADL5542 gain blocks. Read the entire article at: http://www.wsdmag.com/Articles/ArticleID/15764/15764.html ******** 6. News ******** Intelligent Modems Okayed For Verizon EV-DO Rev. A Network The first members of Sierra Wireless' Airlink X Platform, the Raven X and PinPoint X intelligent modems, are qualified for use on the Verizon Wireless EvolutionData Optimized Revision A Network. Read the entire article at: http://www.wsdmag.com/Articles/ArticleID/15765/15765.html ******** 7. News ******** Low-Voltage RF Transceiver, Receiver ICs Target Wireless Control Applications The MC33696 UHF transceiver and the MC33596 receiver from Freescale Semiconducor make it easy to add wireless control in applications that require low operating voltages between 2.1 and 5.5 V.
